Football from the Other Side

For two seasons now, I have been working with the Atlanta Steam of the Legends Football League (LFL) as a marketing and promotions rep helping to coordinate promotional and community service events and working with social media here and there, and I absolutely love it!

Last season and the first game of this season on gameday I spent most of my time in the locker room helping out with little tasks Coach needed me for, and during the game, I hung out in the general admissions end zone. Well, for the game yesterday against the Los Angeles Temptation, I was able to experience the game for the first time live  from the stands – and in great seats, too.

Why is this important, you ask?

When I first started watching LFL football back in during the 2014 season, the only way I ever viewed the games were on TV. If you know me, you know that I enjoy football and live events of any kind. When I saw these women play, I knew I just had to get involved. I wanted to be a part of an organization that showcased powerful women playing a male dominated sport and playing it at a high caliber,  but also had a love for their careers and a heart for community service. I never thought, about what would be my view on gameday. Spending time with the ladies and the coaches of the Steam is a story in itself. There are so many different personalities and they are all quite a blast to be around. What I enjoy most is even though they are generally well known, the are all exceptionally humble and very welcoming. This I love!

While I got the backstage access everyone covets, that was not my top priority when I started working with the team. So when Coach told me this past Thursday that he would have tickets at will call for me, I was somewhat excited knowing I would get to experience the game from the stands for the first time. Obviously I was going to miss being in the thick of it all, but I would get to enjoy everything from a different angle.

I had pretty decent seats, not too far back, but not too close. I could see everything on the field. Every pass, every tackle, everything, and I have to say my first time seeing an Atlanta Steam game from the stands was pretty stellar! I had a nice drink to sip on. I was cheering, laughing and just enjoying the moment. I even got the chance to see what goes on during halftime – at this game it was a dance off and some weird thing where the winner of the dance off gets the chance to  try to tackle one of the players… This is something I usually don’t get a chance to see because at halftime, I am in the locker room with the team.

While I was sure we were going to win, it was sad that it did’t quite happen. For it to have been such a high energy, close game, that would have been the icing on the cake to such a wonderful fan experience. After the game, I waited to speak to Coach and went through the meet and greet line to say my hellos and comments to the ladies, and that was the end. I am glad that I got to finally see the game how so many fans who attend see the game. It really made me appreciate the team and my role that much more.
